UGANDA BIRDING HIGHLIGHTS
Uganda is a top birding destination in Africa. These Safaris will raise your appetite whether as a bird enthusiast, novice, twitcher or professional lister. Uganda has a lot to offer as far as bird species endemism is concerned with more than 50% of Africa and 10% of the global bird diversity seen here.
Uganda has only one endemic bird species-the Fox’s Weaver but with its location at the top center of the African Plateau, this makes the country very rich in biodiversity, birds inclusive as it shares different African biomes. With the biggest fresh water lake in Africa (Lake Victoria) which is home to the Shoebill, the fault lakes, and salt lakes, Uganda has a long list of waterfowl some of which are both Intra-African and Palearctic migrants.
The country also brags about the Albertine rift endemics of which 24 of the 33 can easily be seen from here as well as the lowland species from central Africa in Semuliki and Budongo, the eastern extreme stretch of the Congo Ituri Forest. These and much more have made Uganda a rich birding country with a list close to 1100 species and this tour is a good sample for any birder.
